When the map of India was released after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, with Ladakh becoming a separate Union Territory, Andhra Pradesh was the only state whose capital city did not find a mention. That raised a furore because the previous Telugu Desam government was accused of not issuing a gazette notification for the new state capital.

After MPs from Andhra Pradesh petitioned the Centre to rectify the error, a revised map of India has been issued at the instance of Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs. The new map shows Amaravati on the Andhra Pradesh landscape.
Incidentally, this comes just days before the GN Rao committee is to give its report on the future of Amaravati to the YSRCP government. After studying the report, Jaganmohan Reddy is expected to take a decision on whether to continue with Amaravati as the capital or go in for a new location. The government has not been in favour of a grandiose capital as envisaged by former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, citing lack of resources.
So the question is while Amaravati is back, will it be put on the backburner by Jaganmohan Reddy.
